Accurate Counts and Friendly Service at Hometown Bottle & Recycling Depot

Hometown Bottle & Recycling Depot is committed to providing our guests with a clean, welcoming, and friendly environment. Our depot uses state of the art technology like LCD screens to show your bottle count as it’s being rung through, and video surveillance to ensure accurate counts every time. In fact, if you get home and you believe there was a discrepancy with your count, we can review the video up to 3 days after your visit as part of our commitment to fair, accurate service

Aluminum cans

Aluminum cans are recycled back into new aluminum cans, a process that usually takes less than 60 days.

Polyethylene terephthalate (pet) clear plastic containers

0 - 1 litre

Deposit: $0.10

Refund: $0.10

Over 1 litre

Deposit: $0.25

Refund: $0.25

Clear polyethylene terephthalate containers are recycled into pellets and flakes and manufactured into new food-grade beverage containers.

Other plastic containers (coloured pets and high-density polyethylene)

These types of plastics are recycled into pellets and turned into new non-food plastic products.

Glass containers

Glass containers are crushed and turned into tiny glass beads. The glass is then spun into thin strings, which are used to make fibreglass insulation. Refillable beer bottles are reused.

Tetra pak containers

These types of containers are made of paper, aluminum, and plastic. Each container is put through a hydro-pulping process, separating the different material types. The paper pulp and fibres are recycled into new paper products, and the aluminum and plastics are also recycled.

Gable top containers

Gable top cartons are made of paper and plastic. These containers also go through a hydro-pulping process. The paper pulp is recycled into products like bath tissue, cardboard, and writing paper. The residual plastics are also recycled.

Drink pouches and bag-in-a-box bladders go through gasification for energy recovery. Boxes from the containers are recycled into paper objects like cardboard boxes.

These containers are smelted into things like car parts, construction rebar, and grinding rods.
